Description The NGI has the following mission 1 Create and maintain the planimetric and precision geodetic net of Belgium 2 Ensure and update the aerial photographic coverage of the national territory 3 Develop topological structured topographic data bases and create maps out of these data 4 Process the data from airborne and spaceborne remote sensing 5 Within the framework of its specific activities carry out activities for third parties (thematic cards, precision measurements...) 6 Conduct applied research with regard to the development of the practised disciplines and publish the results of it 7 Establish and distribute standards and directives concerning the contents, the quality and the exchange format of the topographical data bases 8 Educate not only its own technical staff but also that of public and private institutions, as well as foreign stagiairs in the institutes scientific and technical disciplines 9 Manage a documentation centre. This contains a photo library, where aerial and satellite imagery is archived, a map library of old and modern maps and a scientific library which is specialised in geodesy and cartography 10 Commercialise its own products and services
