Description The position is included within the EIT Raw Materials Project inSPECTor, which aims on the development of an integrated Spectroscopy Sensor System for Laser-induced Fluorescence and Hyperspectral Imaging.

The position will be available from 1 August 2017. The employment contract is limited to three years. The regular weekly working time will be 75 % of the normal collectively agreed work hours under TVöD-Bund. The salary is based on the collective agreement TVöD-Bund. The place of work is Freiberg.

Requirements:
  • very good Master's degree or equivalent in the field of geosciences or physics
  • sound knowledge in the fields of mineral spectroscopy, mineralogy and exploration geology
  • strong interest in the development of new spectroscopic methods and related analytical routines
  • hands-on experience or strong interest in programming (e.g., R, Python) for spectral analysis and image analysis for mineral mapping
  • strong motivation to join our exploration team and collaborate with project partners with focus on multiscale remote sensing based mineral spectroscopy and hyperspectral imaging

Tasks:

  • involvement in the development of an integrated spectroscopy sensor system for laser-induced fluorescence and hyperspectral imaging
  • specification of sample material with absorption and emission spectroscopy, evaluation of the data acquired with the sensor prototype and result implementation
  • linking the research component with the technical implementation developed by SME task partners
  • close collaboration with researchers at the TUBAF on luminescence spectroscopy and data processing routines and close collaboration with SME task partners Fl (Freiberg, Germany) and SPECIM (Oulu, Finland), including work stays and joint developments at the company
  • publication and presentations of results in international journals and at conferences
