Description Birkbeck University of London seeks to employ a Lecturer in Planetary Surfaces with an overall research focus related to understanding the evolution of the planets, moons and solar system objects, including the Earth, to complement existing strengths within the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Birkbeck and the Institute of Earth and Planetary Sciences (IEPS) which is joint with the UCL Department of Earth Sciences. Areas of specialization might include, but are not limited to, surface processes using remote sensing and field/laboratory studies, planetary exploration missions, and earth/planet/asteroid/comet evolution, with research skills in observation, measurement and modeling. IEPS provides access to the Centre for Planetary Sciences, a NASA Regional Planetary Imaging Facility, and a wide range of geochemical and geophysical science laboratories.

The successful candidate will provide evidence for experience at the highest levels in research, and strong commitments to developing high quality teaching and administration. As a member of IEPS, the successful candidate will engage with a wider community of existing geology, geophysics and planetary science staff who have expertise in, amongst other topics, planetary exploration, astrobiology, geochemistry, geomorphology, studies of the deep earth and planetary interiors, seismology and natural hazards.
