Project Technician position on the Monsoon Project

The Project Technician will provide technical, logistical and administrative support to the project entitled "Feedbacks between land cover, people, and climate in the seasonally arid tropics", funded via the German Academic Exchange Service within the Franco-German research initiative "Make Our Planet Great Again".

The successful candidate will support and collaborate with the Institute of Geography's international team in their research activities. You will work on the development and implementation of scientific protocols using a range of state-of-the-art remote sensing and survey equipment, including unmanned air vehicles (UAV), thermal infrared (TIR) and multispectral (MS) imaging, and terrestrial laser scanning (TLS). You may also have the opportunity to process large datasets, and be involved in scientific report writing. You will also provide logistical and technical support in stakeholder interviews.

This position will involve extensive fieldwork campaigns, both during field trials in Europe and in the project study areas in West Africa and Central India. Applicants should have a BSc and/or work experience in remote sensing, atmospheric/earth/environmental sciences, geodetics, GIS, or related fields. The Institute requires experience in protocol development, as well as experience using some of the aforementioned field survey equipment. Fieldwork experience (preferably in the tropics) is essential, and a good level of fitness is required. Very good knowledge of spoken and written English is required, and French and German language skills are advantageous.
