The Geothermal Science and Technology group (Prof. Dr. Ingo Sass) invites applications for the position of a PhD researcher - 75% starting as soon as possible. The vacancy is part of the INTERREG North-West Europe project "Roll-out of Deep Geothermal Energy in NWE" and funded for a period of three years.
Your Duties
- Participation in the EU project Deep Geothermal Energy Rollout
- 3D geological-geothermal modeling of the Northern Upper Rhine Graben
- Method development and nomenclature comparison for harmonization of transnational geothermal potential maps of target horizons with INTERREG partners
- Co-development of an advanced exploration toolbox and a decision support systems for project developers and investors
- Presentation of results as a 3D model in maps and reports
- Publication of research results in peer-reviewed scientific journals
Skills and qualifications:
- University degree (Dipl. Univ./Master) in Geosciences or related fields
- Good knowledge of the underground structure of the Upper Rhine Graben
- Good skills in 3D geological modelling (e.g. Move, GOCAD-SKUA, Petrel) and geoinformation systems
- Good general knowledge of geothermal energy systems
- Skills in interdisciplinary, on-time, goal- and team-oriented work
- High proficiency in German and English
- Willingness to travel within Europe and driving license Category B
- Further desirable skills and qualifications:
- Knowledge in exploration geophysics
- Extended knowledge of the description of reservoir systems by hydrogeological and geothermal characteristics
- Experience in working in international projects
