The Bioclimatology group at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany offers a 3-year scientist position with possibility of extension by 3 years in an international research group. Preferred starting date is 1. January 2021. Salary and social benefits are in accordance with the German public service salary scale (TV-L E13) with 100%, which corresponds to 39.8 working hours per week.

Your duties

Research at the Bioclimatology group focuses on understanding land-atmosphere exchange processes using eddy covariance flux towers in Germany and Indonesia as well as land surface models (CANVEG and Community Land Model). The candidate shall conduct research in land-atmosphere exchange processes in line with the existing infrastructure of the group. Tasks include: research, development of new research proposals, publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, supervision of students, responsibility for flux towers or modelling infrastructure, presentation of results nationally and internationally, and teaching (4 hours per week). The candidate has the opportunity to develop his/her own research profile and to pursue a habilitation. This position is also available at the postdoc level for candidates with less experience.

Your profile
  • Ph.D. with a Master/Diplom in meteorology or related disciplines (physics, geography, ecology, geoecology, environmental sciences etc.)
  • Research experience in land-atmosphere exchange processes (experimental/modelling)
  • Skills in data analysis with R or Matlab and/or programming
  • Scientific creativity shown by a track record of original and innovative research
  • Proficiency in English and German
