The REDD+/National Forest Monitoring cluster of the Forestry Department supports countries on technical issues related to forestry and the development of cost effective and reliable Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) processes for emission reductions, which may be helpful to the implementation of REDD+. In addition, the REDD+/NFM cluster contributes to the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration by leading the Task Force on Monitoring in order to develop a framework for operational monitoring and for reporting the progress and achievements in the context of the UN Decade. A first draft has been produced with an extensive list of associated indicators. These indicators need to be reviewed by specific groups of experts through tailored consultations and linked with geospatial and tabular data in support to local to national monitoring and reporting progress at global level. The work of the consultant will be to provide support to the Monitoring Task Force Core Team in the development of the Framework on Ecosystem Restoration Monitoring (FERM) database that will be integrated into a geoportal linked and/or integrated with the FAO Hand-in-Hand geospatial platform.
The incumbent will assist the different staff members and consultants of the REDD+/NFM cluster in the development and formulation of project proposals with a specific focus on the Africa region as well as in relation to the UN Decade Ecosystem Restoration.
