Postdoctoral researcher in Climate and Hyperspectral Remote Sensing

The Atmospheric Composition, Measurements and Modelling group (ACM²) of the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) and the Spectroscopy, Quantum Chemistry and Atmospheric Remote Sensing Group of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join their teams.

This recruitment is part of the research profile ROLLS “Radiation: Outgoing Longwave Spectral Signatures” within the framework of FED-tWIN, the Belgian Programme of sustainable research cooperation between the Federal Scientific Institutes and the universities.

The Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium (RMI) has a longstanding tradition in

  • conducting scientific research
  • collecting and processing measurements across scale of observations including spaceborne data
  • providing services in weather, climate and geo-physics at the national and international level.

The RMI has in-house expertise in meteorological and climate models and in collecting and processing large spatio-temporal datasets on weather and atmospheric composition.

The ULB team has a strong expertise on the sounding of atmospheric composition by satellites. The group develops and maintains state-of-the-art radiative transfer software, which is used along with inverse methods to retrieve atmospheric trace gas concentrations and aerosol properties. Recently, it also started performing climate studies, exploiting the hyperspectral capabilities of the IASI instrument.

The joint research profile aims at assessing the variations in global outgoing longwave radiation and their underlying mechanisms in a long-term perspective using hyperspectral infrared observations. The postdoctoral researcher will pursue innovative and interdisciplinary research relying on the complementary expertise of both groups.
