As a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres we are part of the largest scientific organization in Germany. With approximately 1,500 employees our key mission is to secure a profound understanding of the systems and processes of solid Earth, to develop strategies and options for action in addressing global change and its impacts on a regional level, to understand natural hazards and to minimize associated risks, to ensure the sustainable provision of energy and raw materials for a high-tech society and to evaluate the influence of human activity on system Earth.

GFZ is looking for a researcher with focus on improving Earth Observation-based data and products for forest and land monitoring and assessments using a combination of on the ground and satellite data. This includes the application of different datasets, data processing, and analysis for large area and country-level assessments of land dynamics and changes. The position will also have a specific focus on stakeholder analysis, user assessment and FAIR data uptake processes. The candidate will work also in the context of different national settings and is expected to engage with different international partners and initiatives (like the EU OpenEarthMonitor and Copernicus land monitoring services). The researcher will further contribute innovative ideas as part of several research projects and be an active member of the Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics Section of the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ). Our section strives to establish remote sensing as a core method for Earth Sciences and geo- and nature-based solutions.
