The purpose of the EUMETSAT User Forum in Africa is to sustain the well established dialogue between EUMETSAT and the African user community, in particular the National Meteorological Services and their regional centres. The overall objective is to facilitate the access and use of data from EUMETSAT’s operated satellites (inc. Meteosat, Metop and Sentinels) to support decision making in various socio-economic sectors. The Forum provides the opportunity to exchange on various project and initiative, and identify actions that could be taken by EUMETSAT and its partners to better meet the requirements of the African users and to support implementation of the Integrated African Strategy on Meteorology (Weather and Climate Services). .
The 15th EUMETSAT User Forum in Africa focuses on:
- The transition to the new Meteosat Third Generation
- Use of Earth observation in support to Climate resilience, Disaster Risk Reduction and Blue economy in Africa
- Capacity building (training and infrastructure for satellite data access)
- Link and contribution to continental wide programme (GMES&Africa, SAWIDRA, CLIMSA)
The on-line working group sessions on 8-9 June involved representatives from NMHS, Regional centres and partners who work on daily basis with data from EUMETSAT operated satellites.
The plenary sessions on 13-16 September will involve representatives from the NMHS, Regional centres, Policy institutions as well as European and International partners to discuss on-going and potential new initiatives in key strategic areas.
