On Thursday 2 July 2026 our colleagues Jan and Joost participated in the name of BELSPO to the first joint (BE-NL) national meeting on the Copernicus Marine Service which took place in Rotterdam.
The main question of the day was "How can marine data better support coastal monitoring and decision making?"
To explore this shared challenge, experts from the Netherlands and Belgium came together for this first Dutch-Belgian Copernicus Marine Service (CMEMS) event.
Researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and data providers exchanged experiences, discussed emerging developments such as Digital Twins and EDITO - European Digital Twin Ocean, and identified future needs for marine data services.
Throughout the day, it became clear that maritime security is increasingly prominent within marine and coastal agendas. As we move from a world of data scarcity to one of data abundance, making data easy to find, navigate and apply is more important than ever. As our colleague Joost remarked: "For us, the North Sea knows no boundaries."
