Glaciers around the world are suffering from the consequences of Climate Change. Their melting is having a disastrous impact on local communities and biodiversity.
According to a new study by UNESCO, a third of all glaciers in World Heritage Sites will disappear by 2050 due to rising temperatures. This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 11 March 2022, shows the glaciers of Los Alerces National Park in Argentina. The report indicates that the glaciers of the area have lost 45.6% of their mass since 2000.
The data provided by Copernicus satellites make it possible to extract key data on mapping and monitoring glaciers around the world.
