Starting on 27 January 2025, heavy rainfall in western France from Storm Ivo led to the worst flooding in decades in the departments of Ille-et-Vilaine and Loire-Atlantique.
The tributaries in the upstream Vilaine basin are facing major flooding, with overflow occurring in parts of the Seiche and Vilaine rivers.

On 29 January 2025, the French Interministerial Crisis Management Operational Centre activated the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) to provide flood extent emergency mapping (EMSR788). This data visualisation based on CEMS data shows in blue tones the evolution of the flooded areas between 31 January and 5 February near the city of Redon.
Open data from the Copernicus Services and Sentinel satellites provide reliable monitoring of flooding events. This information supports response and recovery operations to keep communities safer.
