After sweeping through the Caribbean, Fiona was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm on Friday 23 September, before approaching the eastern coast of Canada. However, the mighty power of the storm brought about very strong winds and heavy rains, causing unprecedented damage to houses and infrastructure, while power outages affected more than 500,000 people.
This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 25 September 2022, shows the turbidity of Canadian Atlantic waters resulting from swell and river discharge caused by Fiona.
The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) has been activated to support damage assessment in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and the Magdalen Islands (Québec).
