Context and objectives
Algorithms for remote sensing of algal and non-algal aquatic particle concentrations are quite mature. However, very significant errors from atmospheric correction and sunglint removal algorithms are a major cause of low or unusable quality data. Although many approaches are being investigated to achieve improvements, the use of multi-look satellite data has received little attention. There are a number of satellite missions for which multi-look data is available and is relevant for aquatic applications including Pléiades, CHRIS-PROBA and for certain regions, SEVIRI. The optical probing of water in different directions provides extra information on the atmosphere, air-water interface and aquatic particles that could be used to improve atmospheric correction and sunglint removal.
The general objective of the project is to improve the optical remote sensing of aquatic particles by using multi-look satellite data, particularly for turbid waters.

- Recommendations for future satellite missions as regards design of multi-look sensors for aquatic applications
Expected products and services
Expected products is a new generation of level 2 water products (water leaving reflectance) for Sentinel 2 and Landsat 8 (other platforms are possible) with improvements in data quality and quantity (less data masked by sunglint).
