Earth Observation (EO) has been through a significant transformation in the past years. A combination of new, complementary EO instrument capabilities, together with Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Big Data technologies, have opened a wealth of opportunities for science and applications.

Scientist and experts from across the world have significantly contributed by combining these technologies and creating a source of timely and relevant information to mitigate environmental risks, build a better-informed society, to strengthen climate resilience, and to address the Sustainable Development Goals.

The European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Geosciences Union (EGU) are therefore extremely delighted to announce the opening of the latest edition of the ESA-EGU EO Excellence Award.

This award will recognise and honour an individual early career scientist and Team that have made an outstanding contribution to the innovative use of Earth Observations, with a focus on the use of European EO datasets in the field of science and applications.

The award will be announced and presented at next year’s EGU General Assembly 2023 in Vienna following an independent evaluation of nominations led by the European Space Sciences Committee (ESSC) of the European Science Foundation (ESF).

Nominations will be collected from 7 September [12:00 UTC] till 7 December 2022 [11:59 UTC].
