The North Atlantic hurricane season officially lasts from 1 June to 30 November, with May being the least active month and September being the most active. In 2005 there were so many tropical storms that the National Hurricane Center, which names them, ran out of letters and had to start using the Greek alphabet. In total there were 27 named tropical storms or hurricanes, with the last one being tropical storm Zeta. By 26 October, the same scenario applied to the 2020 hurricane season.

Hurricane Zeta was a relatively weak system that passed the Gulf of Mexico with little intensification, and was predicted to hit the US main land as a Category 1 storm. Figure 1 shows the topography of high reaching clouds of central cold cover (CCC), indicating the weak development of this storm.
