2024 is Belgium’s wettest year on record

In 2024, Belgium was affected by unusually wet weather.

This data visualisation, produced using data from the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), shows the precipitation anomaly in Belgium for each month of 2024. The data reveals that the precipitation anomaly was especially high in May, while November marked the first month of the year with generally below-average rainfall compared to the 1991-2020 reference period. According to the Climate Bulletins published by the Copernicus Climate Change Service, record precipitation was recorded for spring in northeastern Belgium. 

Data published by the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium (RMI) show anomalies consistent with the information retrieved by C3S. The RMI's Uccle station recorded a total annual precipitation of 1,092.9 mm as of 27 November 2024—the highest yearly amount on record, surpassing the previous record of 1,088.5 mm set in 2001.
