Cold temperatures caused snowfalls which affected many areas of the northern hemisphere over the past week. Many countries are currently blanketed, with snow with accumulations of up to 15 cm in some areas of northern Europe. The snow has caused traffic disruptions in several regions.

This image acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 19 January 2024 shows part of Belgium and the Netherlands covered with snow.

The Snow and Ice Monitoring product of the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS) provides data on several parameters that are key to the monitoring of snow and ice, including snow extent.
