Between 15 and 18 January 2025, an eruptive phase of Hawaii's Kīlauea volcano was recorded, making it the fourth episode since 23 December 2024.
The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reported that the eruption was confined to the Halemaʻumaʻu crater within the Kīlauea summit caldera. The activity included episodic fountaining, a phenomenon not observed in recent eruptions.

The thermal signature of the cooling lava was still visible in this image acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 21 January 2025.
The Copernicus Sentinel satellites deliver essential information on the state of volcanic activity around the world, providing researchers and authorities with insights to help keep affected communities safer.
