- Geocoding SPOT XS image coverage of Belgium: evaluation and optimisation of rectification procedures

Context and objectives

Evaluation and optimisation of following methods for the geometrical correction of SPOT satellite imagery over Belgium: global and local transformation methods and ortho-rectification using a high-resolution Digital Elevation Model (DEM) with the aim of obtaining a rectification procedure for the geocoding of SPOT images of the Belgian territory.

Project outcome

Expected scientific results

On basis of their relief intensity, Belgium was divided in two zones. For relatively flat areas, the most simple and cost-effective method, i.e. the global affine transformation is preferred.
For more relief contrasted areas, ortho-rectification offers a higher accuracy.
