This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 4 June 2021, shows the area around Gretna in the south of Manitoba in Canada.

On the day that this image was acquired, the temperature in Gretna reached 41.3°C, a value that had not been recorded at this time of year since 1934. Manitoba already experienced an early heatwave in mid-May that triggered multiple wildfires and devastated an area near Lake Winnipeg.

The open data provided by Copernicus satellite missions allow the development of innovative models for understanding and mitigating environmental phenomena related to climate change.
