Context and objectives
The study investigates the constraints of applicability, the state of the art in urban remote sensing, the used methodologies, the completed end- and sub-products, the assessments of the research and an exhaustive bibliography.
Project outcome
Expected scientific results
Various methods of classification optimisation are introduced : use of neo-channels (textural or others), zone classification and morphological filtering applied to post-classification.
Among the methodological innovations, one should mention image segmentation techniques, modelization of classification results through potential or gravitational formula (statistical surfaces modelling of central place distribution, urban hierarchy, determination of their theoretical zone of influence). Merging the modes of residential and vegetal intensity has allowed on to purpose original methods for defining the ecological surrounding of the residential areas.
The applications concern mainly the "Euregio Meuse-Rhine", the urbanised core of these cross-border region (Liege, Aachen, Maastricht), the agglomeration of Luxemburg and the metropolitan area of Lisbon. Some of these applications have applied the publication of regular satellite maps in order to satisfy the prescriptions of space organisation planning.
