Only 6 more weeks until PROBA-V’s operational lifetime will come to an end. As of July 1, 2020 the programme will shift from an operational to an experimental mission including the continuation over Europe and Africa, moon acquisitions for multi-mission calibration purposes, companion small satellites, and an upgrade of their Mission Exploitation Platform.
Ever since its launch in 2016 the MEP has enriched its data and tools to facilitate the use of EO data to large vegetation user community. Next to PROBA-V and Copernicus global land data, PROBA-V’s MEP now also offers Sentinel data and there’s more to come. Here’s an overview of what you can expect the coming years:
- PROBA-V data will be integrated into a brand new data catalog which offers the newest standards to search, view and download EO data;
- The viewing and catalogue front-end will be upgraded with a new look and feel to improve the user experience;
- A new framework will enable third party service providers to onboard their own services on the MEP. the platform's users create valuable algorithms and insights but often struggle to reach the right audience. The developers intend not only close to this gap with an orchestration layer allowing the third party service providers to easily and seamlessly deploy their services, but also to implement an accounting and billing framework within the MEP to facilitate revenue generation on their service.
