Originally, the event would have taken place in Brussels, but the pandemic obviously rendered that impossible. Instead, the organizing committee has set up a gorgeous and super responsive virtual platform.
This year's edition of the famous conference was a joint effort of the European Low Countries, Belgium and Netherlands. As such, the organizing committee promoted “Crossing Borders” as the main theme with other up-to-date developments and advanced research in the field of geoscience and remote sensing. Specifically, the symposium promoted submissions to the following special scientific themes:
- UAV and miniaturised remote sensing capabilities and applications
- GPS, GNSS and Galileo for earth observation
- Geo information and integration for smart and green cities
- Advanced monitoring and assessment of hazards (natural, anthropogenic and pandemic)
BELSPO was one of the main actors of the committee in charge of this year's edition and was associated with Belgian and Dutch universities and research centres. The organizing committee would like to thank all participants for making IGARSS 20121 a great success! This event was an excellent opportunity to promote research conducted in our country in the domain of Earth observation.
With more than 2900 participants from 72 countries, more than 2000 papers, 352 sessions and 50 job offers, it was an excellent occasion for knowledge exchange, the exploration and discussion of topics related to Remote Sensing' and to catching up with colleagues from around the globe.
The full recording of the closing ceremony is available online en all of the proceedings have now been published on the IEEEXplore digital library. You can check them all out here: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/search/searchr.
We would particularly like to thank our STEREO partners who have greatly contributed to making this event a real success.
