The newest member of the Jason series of satellites (Joint Altimetry Satellite Oceanography Network), Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich, has once again been developed under the umbrella of a cooperation between NASA, ESA, EUMETSAT and NOAA. Also know under its old name Jason-CS, the two-satellite constellation will be controlled by EUMETSAT from its Darmstadt Headuarters.

The first satellite, Sentinel-6A, is fuelled and ready to be launched. Originally the launch was planned for November 10th, but NASA now released a statement explaining that it will be pushed back slightly:

“NASA and SpaceX now are targeting Saturday, 21 November for the launch of the US-European Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich ocean-monitoring satellite on a Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 4E at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

“The additional time allowed SpaceX to complete Falcon 9 Merlin engine testing and inspections following an on-pad abort during a non-NASA mission.
