V Validation

Summary

V - HOW TO VALIDATE RESULTS?

A lot of information can be derived from remote sensing data, usually in an automated way, by using sophisticated digital image processing techniques and specialised computer programmes.

But is this information reliable? Can we use it as input for environmental models? Can we just base important policy decisions on it?

To be sure, it is essential to estimate or validate the accuracy of remote sensing data. There are two aspects to the accuracy of remote sensing data:

  • geographical accuracy

  • the accuracy of the data itself.
